Sexism in videogames and the media

Now, I’m really not sure if there’s a certain group of people making a fuss about the over sexualization of women in videogames. So I’m just going to refer to them as “women”. For the longest time I’ve heard that women are very upset about how they are portrayed in, videogames, comics, movies, animes, etc. Now as an avid video gamer and “otaku”, I sat down to think about this. I can see where they are coming from when they say they are putting the wrong image of women into people’s minds. They say that these (fake) women sort of create an unrealistic standard in the heads of young people. Mostly males. But what these women (and men) need to realize is this standard does not only affect women, but men as well. How do you think men feel to see their girlfriends, crushes, and wives create a fuss about fake vampires and werewolves? This part of the media, whether it be literature or movies, creates an unrealistic standard for men as well. Look people, men are just as much affected affected by this unrealistic standard as women are.

Now, for the girls reading this, let me ask you something. Say you were to watch a movie about a superhero or something. Better yet, say a vampire and werewolf were to fight over you. Physically fight to the death over you because they wanted you THAT MUCH. Would you rather them be;

A. Skinny and nerdy

B. muscular and heroic

And I’m not surprised if some of you pick A, because there are simple women out there. But don’t lie, you would probably love it much more if they looked muscular and heroic. It’s human nature.

It’s not like these comics and videogames who present women in an unrealistic way represent men realistically. These games that women have such a problem with represent men as invincible, muscular, heroic, and everything close to, if not unrealistic. These things men love and women hate, equally affect men as they do women. The only reason why people don’t notice it is because men see these characters and think “wow, he’s so cool!” And when women see the female characters they think “why does she have big breasts?” Men simply aren’t as sensitive. Women only notice the outside, and seem to forget the personality of these female characters. Most are strong, (if not always stronger than their male counterparts), smart, cunning, and beautiful. I’d see why women had a problem if the characters were extremely gorgeous yet completely stupid. Which never happens.

Bottom line, both men and women are affected by an unrealistic standard in the media. So if you’re going to complain, complain about how PEOPLE are portrayed in the media. Not just women.

the only “b” word u should call a girl is bagel

Bagels are empty in the middle. You would be metaphorically calling the girl empty on the inside. This would not be nice because it could be taken as she is shallow without any substance or that she has nothing and no one. Both are terrible things to be called. I would be sad if someone called me a bagel. Call me Beautiful instead.

Stop what you’re doing and read this. For every note this post gets, a bee will burrow into my skin and become one with my mind and body. With your help I will transform into a being (a beeing) of unadulterated fuzzy black and yellow unity, an unstoppable and horrifying force of nauseating hivemind efficiency and then I will know true peace. Please help me achieve my dreams
